About Our
Organization

Hey! I am Carmela  and Welcome to The Peony Project! I started the organisation in 2020 and I am so excited to share this work with you!

The aim of The Peony Project is to have open conversations about pressing and controversial topics between people from different backgrounds, ethnic groups, religions, sexualities, gender, race, etc. Videos of these conversations will be recorded and then posted on Instagram. We live in a world where fake news is so prominent - why not listen to these conversations from the horse's mouth? The aim is not to change anyone's opinion - it's to educate individuals and give a broader and more accepting lens on certain topics.

There is no hiding behind the fact that South Africa is very divided. If we can prompt open, factual and educational conversations about such pressing issues - this can help to break stigmas and prejudices attached to certain social groups and conversations. The aim is to create empathy and acceptance through open and respectful conversation.

Acceptance and progression of society can't happen without open and educated conversations that smash those prejudices and stigmas!
